Liturgical Mysticism

2020 Symposium Breakout Session Abstract by David Fagerberg

LITURGY and asceticism are the block and tackle God uses to raise us to holiness. When He does, the ascent can be called “liturgical mysticism.” There are two operational theaters of liturgy: in the Church and in the soul. Grace at work in the former I shall call sacramental liturgy , and grace at work in the latter I shall call liturgical mysticism . Mediated by sacramental liturgy and hypostasized as personal liturgy, liturgical mysticism is the Trinitarian mystery that anchors the substance of our lives. Join us for a deeper exploration and discussion of this liturgical path to holiness.
