The humble device known as a ladder serves as an image of the journey upon which all Christians have embarked: an ascent of the soul to God.
Located directly next door to Eighth Day Books, The Ladder is the official headquarters for Eighth Day Institute. Inspired by the ladder as an image for the sort of life we promote, which is visually depicted in a twelfth-century icon based on a seventh-century treatise by St. John of the Ladder titled The Ladder of Divine Ascent, our work at The Ladder encourages visitors to embark on a spiritual journey of ascent through spiritual practices that lead people to union with Christ.
