Borrowing from Lewis and Dante, we could say that it’s an act of love that God made hell because He carved out one area of the universe where He is no so that people who do not want to spend eternity with God will have someplace to go. … If we don’t want to be with God, He will not force us to be with Him. He will leave us alone. And ultimately hell is being radically and existentially alone."
